The German Commercial Internet Exchange wants to make the eastern German states more interesting for companies by setting up an Internet hub in Leipzig.
The German Commercial Internet Exchange (DE-CIX) is preparing to launch another Internet node in Germany. It is being built in Leipzig and will be the second Internet node in eastern Germany – the first is operated by the Berlin Commercial Internet Exchange (BCIX), which has had a partnership with DE-CIX since 2018.
The Internet node is scheduled to go online in the fourth quarter of 2022. The two companies envia TEL and PŸUR Business take care of the necessary hardware for DE-CIX Leipzig in their data centers. The Internet node is intended to make the states of Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia more interesting for companies.
In Saxony-Anhalt in particular, the infrastructure is set to grow in the coming years: Intel is building its largest European semiconductor plants in Magdeburg, a so-called megafab, which will serve as a launch pad for further company relocations. Southeast of DE-CIX, Silicon Saxony is located around Dresden.
